About Astro
Our history, mission, and team
The idea for Astro was born from a deep and abiding love for pets, and one family’s heartbreaking loss.
In 2018, Astro co-founder Ashley Brown’s beloved bichon frisé, Gus Gus, was diagnosed with lung cancer. With an uncertain prognosis, Ashley and his husband opted for surgery. Sadly, Gus Gus died shortly thereafter.
Could Ashley’s family have done anything to catch Gus Gus’ cancer in time? Gus Gus’ death sparked an idea that there must be a better way to manage pet health — perhaps that technology and tangible insights from a wide-angle view of pet health data could make pets’ lives healthier and happier. That idea became Astro.
Astro started as a way to retrieve your pet’s information from any veterinarian in the US and share your pet’s health information with new dog walkers, day care providers, travel companies, and even other veterinarians.
But we soon realized that was only half of the equation. What was also needed was a simple system for overworked veterinary clinics to help them manage their practices more efficiently, see more patients, and grow their businesses.
The root of our story makes us an intensely purpose-driven company. Astro is centered in the belief that we can build a world with healthier, happier pets. We hope you and your animals will join us in that mission. Remember, life’s better with a friend.
